Iris bred!

Well, my demon-doe decided to be ‘good’ for once! Iris followed Reb’s example and went into heat this morning. It is usually EXTREMELY hard to tell when Iris is in heat, but I left the buck in with the 2 Nigerian does over night which is the only way I knew. She doesn't show ANY signs of heat most of the time, even if she is in a pen next to a buck, so I was very glad to have caught her in heat today! So hopefully we will have two Nigerians freshening in January (assuming they both settle). Rebekah is due January 19 and Iris on the 20th.
All of Rebekah’s kids will be for sale, and most of Iris’s (one doeling retained). Rebekah's doelings are $200, Iris's $250 and all bucklings/wethers are $150. Reservations open now! Visit our website, http://oneringfarm.weebly.com/ for more information on 2016 Nigerian babies.

We won’t need Orion until December when we breed Loretta, so he is available for stud. Contact me for pricing. Driveway breedings only!

Rebekah bred!

I’ve been waiting for weeks for one of the does to go into heat, but apparently mine don’t go into heat until the END of August, even with Lutalyse. I noticed Reb hanging by the fence next to the bucks this morning though and brought Orion over, hoping she was actually in heat and not just giving false alarms like some other does I know(we won’t mention Iris’s name) she was receptive though and we’re praying she settles! Yay! I’ll probably do a blood test soon, since she’s been known to trick us. Iris wasn’t cooperating with my plans to breed her this month so Reb will be our January Nigie instead. Hopefully Iris will still come into heat in time to breed her for January kids, but I sort of doubt it even with the shot of Lutalyse the vet gave her last Tuesday. That goat NEVER, EVER cooperates with anything!....Demon doe

Merry Oaks CallMeTheBreeze

I finally ended up ordering another pair of #10 blades, and I was able to get Breeze clipped down last week and get some pictures of her. She is maturing very nicely! She is twin sister to Alabama, and the result of a linebreeding that I was very, very pleased with:)
since we're already freshening 10 milkers next year, Breeze will be held over as a dry yearling. Hopefully she will continue to mature beautifully and look this nice as a yearling.

A few pictures of a birth

I was looking through some pictures of our kidding season this year and I found some pictures my friend took when Breeze and Bam were born.
One of these days I'll get the whole thing on video...maybe next kidding season...

The First bubble. 2 feet presenting correctly with a head following..
You can now clearly see both feet, as she lays down to push
This one is a little harder to see, but the nose has now been pushed out.
There weren't any more pictures of this kid, except this-

The little Cou Blanc doe I'd been wanting. Thanks Della!
While we were still drying off Breeze, she started pushing out the next one-

Another doe!
Sweet Home Alabama.
Both of them a couple hours later.

Merry Oaks Sweet Home Alabama

I've been wanting to getall the doe kids clipped but after I clipped Tokyo my Clipmasters started cutting on and off and only working half the time. And using the A5s for the entire body was a little difficult because the #10 blades were starting to get dull, I don't think I'd sharpened them since the Spring Show in May. I like to clip the bodies with Clipmasters and the head, neck, feet, legs, etc. with A5s. I managed to get a little bit done with the Clipmasters before figuring out that they need the cord replaced. Hopefully someone will get around to doing that one of these days. It took me twice as long as usual to clip her but with LOTS of Kool Lube and oil and going very slowly, I coaxed the now very dull #10's to finish Alabama.
And I couldn't be more pleased with what I found under all that hair:)
Bam is very long, level doeling with excellent feet and legs. She is very dairy and angular, nicely uphill with very nice depth of body for her age. I really like the result of this linebreeding.
she will be one of my milking yearlings next year and hopefully I can get her to Harrisburg:)

September Breeding plans

We are just breeding two does for February kiddings.
Sweet Flowers Poppy and Sweet Flowers Clematis.

                                                Sweet Flowers Poppy.
DOB: March 25 2007
"Poppy is a very level doe with good dairy character and angularity. She has a nice rear udder with good height and width. She has a nice fore udder but I'd like it to be just a bit longer. If I were to change her I  would make her a little stronger in the feet and legs.
Kidded March 30 2015-Single buckling.  Milked out in 1st picture.
Milk record. 2014-16 lbs/day"

We've had Poppy for 6 years and STILL don't have a surviving purebred doeling out of her! Maybe this year...
I will be keeping any and all of Poppy's doe kids next year, but her bucklings will all be available for $250.

                                                         Sweet Flowers Clematis
Clematis in fall of 2014. Almost dried up.
Clematis in Spring 2015
"Clematis received 1 of her champion legs in 2012 and placed 2nd in the Aged doe class in the Open Show at the NC state fair this year. She has good length and levelness throughout, good depth and body capacity.  She has a well attached mammary system, with very nice shape to her udder and teats. She has nice, angular rear legs and clean sharp withers. I'd like to see her blended a little more smoothly and a little stronger in the feet and legs.
7 years old.
LA 2013-89 VEEE. Kidded April 3-single doeling."
I just bought Clematis after the NC State Fair last year and we have been very pleased with her. I kept a very nice doeling out of her, Merry Oaks LucyInTheSky.
I'm hoping to get some more doelings out of her, 1st doeling is retained, 2nd $350. Bucks are $300.
Clematis will be 7 next year.

Both Clematis and Poppy will be bred to Adonis, repeat breedings from last year.
